A generic drug called sildenafil citrate will soon be the first of its kind, and is the only drug for erectile dysfunction approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the US.
A spokesman for the FDA said Viagra was available from any pharmacy and that it was not available over the counter in the US.
Viagra will be manufactured in India and will be available to buy online in a few days.
Viagra is approved for men with ED and can be taken orally, the spokesman said.
The drug has been available in the US since April 2020, and Viagra was introduced in the US in June.
It was the first of its kind in the world, with its patent expiry date set to expire on March 27, 2021.
“Sildenafil citrate will have a long-term impact on the way we do medicines,” said John Jenkins, a Pfizer researcher and chief executive officer.
Pfizer’s patent on sildenafil was expiring in 2017, and is expected to expire on April 3, 2019, in the UK, said Jenkins.
The US market for erectile dysfunction drugs is estimated at $32 billion, and is expected to reach $50 billion by 2025.

Police said officers were approached by a woman, who said they had bought Viagra from a friend and had been taking it for two weeks.
